Quartier Vanier is looking for a Market Manager and QV Patrol
MARKET MANAGER
Responsible to the Executive Director of the Quartier Vanier Merchants Association, the Market Manager plays an integral role in the operation of the Farmers Market and Artsfest, by working with vendors, exhibitors and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Interpret the market rules in a consistent and fair manner.
- Ensure vendors, exhibitors and the market operations are in compliance with City bylaws.
- Work closely with the local Public Health Inspector to ensure regulatory issues are addressed within the market.
- Recruit and schedule vendors, staff and exhibitors.
- Ensure all vendors and exhibitors, both new and returning, are given an application form and a copy of the Market rules at the start of the season.
- Maintain accurate and complete records on the market operations, vendors and exhibitors.
- Work with the Executive Director to determine the optimal market mix.
- Respond to market inquiries in a timely manner.
- Communicate respectfully with vendors, exhibitors, sponsors, inspectors and other stakeholders.
- Conduct periodic surveys to assess customer opinions and satisfaction with the Market.
Market Setup
- Provide logistics and set up of staging, sound systems, tents, tables, booths etc.
- Ensure signs are made and displayed prominently within the community.
- Ensure tables and/or booths are allocated each weekend in compliance with market policy.
- Arrive at a set time period before the market opens to set up tents and equipment, allocate tables, mark out booth spaces and greet vendors and exhibitors on their arrival
- Be visible and accessible during market day.
- Prior to leaving the market at the end of the day, ensure the market area is clean and meets all requirements laid out in the market rental or lease agreement and return all equipment to on site storage.
Skills & Qualifications
- Able to communicate well, both in writing and orally in both official languages.
- Previous farmers market experience a definite asset.
- Time management and organizational skills essential.
- Experience in food service would be an asset.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Able to set up equipment as needed.
- Interest in the arts community.
- Knowledge of the City of Ottawa by laws.
- Computer skills required.
QV SAFETY PATROL
The Quartier Vanier (QV) Merchants Association (BIA) launches a yearly safety patrol that is the “eyes and ears” of our commercial zone which includes: Montreal Road, Beechwood and McArthur Avenues. This program runs from June to October. As street ambassadors, the QV Patrol, help our merchants in the following duties:
Duties
- Observe & monitor suspicious activities within the commercial area.
- Communicate with Ottawa Police Service, City By law, Paramedic Service and OC Transpo staff when required.
- Provide daily written reports on observations and activities.
- Ensure the areas are safe for all pedestrians and merchants.
- Distribute brochures or other community information to merchants when required.
- Help and assist in the QV Farmers Market from July to September on Saturdays from approximately 9 am to 2 pm. Tasks can include the set-up and take down of equipment.
- Working hours are 4 days a week in the late afternoon and evening, including weekends.
Qualifications
- Possess a licence to act as a Security Guard under the Private Security and Investigative Services Act from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
- Able to walk for 4 to 5 hours per shift
- Good social and personal skills
- Ability to deal with confrontation in a safe, polite and professional manner.
- Ability to communicate, both in writing and orally, in both official languages.
- Team player.
