New Official Name for our Business Area
The Board of Directors of the “QV” Merchants’ Association
has passed a resolution at its last meeting on June 17th, requesting
that the City of Ottawa enact a By-law to officially change the
name of our business association from Vanier Business Improvement
Area (BIA) to the Quartier Vanier Merchants Association (BIA).
Although we re-branded the name and the ‘look’ back
in February 2005, the city will proceed with legally recognizing
our commercial zone with a more appropriate identity.
We need to hear from you. What do you think of the
Quartier Vanier identity? On July 15th, at its next monthly meeting,
the Board is expected to review this item and pass a resolution to
adopt the name change and once approved, city staff will then present
a report at City Council.

More Safety Patrols
The Quartier Vanier introduced in April 2008, a new safety program
that consists of security patrols, dressed in bright yellow t-shirts,
who are keeping an eye in our commercial area. “They act as our eyes and ears”, says John
Therien, newly elected QV President. “We want them to get to know our merchants
and report back to us and the Ottawa Police Services of any unusual or suspect
incidences that may occur.”
Please take the time to say “hello” and get to know them. Our
safety patrols are also here to get the word out on new events
and to direct visitors in our area.
Because of its success, we’ve added more patrols to serve you.

Broom ‘n Groom – Montreal Road...
Cleanest Street in Ottawa!
Along with a new safety program, came a new clean-up program. The QV launched
‘broom ‘n groom’ this past spring. Merchants along Montreal
Road where provided with a broom and everyone came out at 10 am to sweep the
front of their stores and to say hello to their neighbours. Along with the merchants,
many others took part in the event including residents, elected officials and
Ottawa Police representatives.
“It was a great experience!” commented Serge
Faucher, manager of Racine, Robert et Gauthier Funeral
Home on Montreal Road, one of our Board members. "We
certainly take pride of our own property and I was amazed to see
so many others feeling the same way”.
The program will be extended and hopefully a fall Broom ‘n Groom
will take place on McArthur and Beechwood avenues as well.

A
Message From Your New President
John Therien jtherien@vanierbia.com
“To raise a child, you need help from everyone in the village.” The “QV” is
our new baby. The Quartier Vanier Merchants Association (the BIA) was established
in 1985. We are entering a new era. It is time to give new life to our neighborhood
and turn Vanier into a beautiful community once again.
We need the help of the residents, the elected officials, all of you, our
businesses and the Ottawa Police Services to join together and ensure the
safe and secure growth of our area. It is a time for change and rejuvenation.
Everyone has a key role to play in the health, wealth and prosperity of
our commercial zone.
As the new President, my goal is to ensure that your business is part of
that successful change. In case you didn’t know, hundreds of millions
of dollars are being invested in the QV. New residential and commercial
development will bring in thousands of new residents and employees with
good disposable income, generating millions in our community within the
next 5 years.
I look forward to meeting you personally. Please don’t hesitate to
contact me directly if you wish to discuss your plans for the area.
We are always open to new ideas!
